In 2015, Twitter user and stripper @_zolarmoon went viral off of a story about a crazy weekend in Florida. The 150 tweet-long saga contained twists, pimps, violence, and scams, and left much of the internet remarking on what a good movie it could be. Soon, A24 acquired the rights to the Rolling Stone piece "Zola Tells All: The Real Story Behind the Greatest Stripper Saga Ever Tweeted," with Janicza Bravo (Atlanta, Dear White People, Lemon) announced as the project's director in June.
On Tuesday, The Hollywood Reporter announced the film had cast Zola: Taylour Paige will play the film's lead role. Paige currently appears in the Matthew McConaughey film White Boy Rick.
The film, titled Zola, will begin production in the fall.
